Day 23 - The Arrival: The Birth of our Savior.
Luke 2:8-11 - In the same region, shepherds were
staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night
over their flock. (9) Then an angel of the Lord stood
before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around
them, and they were terrified. (10) But the angel
said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim
to you good news of great joy that will be for all
the people: (11) Today in the city of David a Savior
was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.
Isn’t it interesting that the first announcement of the birth of Christ was given to
shepherds? There’s so much hidden here. To be a shepherd was to have a dirty,
ceremoniously unclean job. They were kind of despised because their work kept them
from the temple for long periods of time: unclean and without the ability to become
clean. And their sheep? Those were the animals used as sacrifices in the temple. God
shows His respect for the lowly by choosing them to hear the angel’s tidings!
Christmas reveals God’s grace for all of us. Everyone is important to Him!
